I still haven't seen all of Kumiko, The Treasure Hunter but this new trailer gives me a significantly better grasp of the film's unattractive than the teaser that debuted late last year. As someone who actually feels refreshed by meditative snowscape films I'm stoked to finally check it out. Kumiko comes from writing/directing team David and Nathan Zellner (Kid Thing) and is a riff on a popular urban legend about a girl who believes Fargo is a true story and goes searching for the money Steve Buscemi's character buried near the end of that movie.

Check out the Kumiko, The Treasure Hunter trailer below along with a new poster for the movie. The film stars Rinko KikuchiNobuyuki Katsube, Shirley Venard, David Zellner, & Nathan Zellner. Matt was mixed on the film but I've also spoken with a large amount of people who really love it so I'm serious to see where my opinion will ultimately fall. The score by The Octopus Project won a special jury award at Sundance. It hits select theaters on March 18th, 2015.

Here's the official synopsis for Kumiko, The Treasure Hunter:

In this darkly comedic odyssey, Academy Award nominee Rinko Kikuchi (Babel, Pacific Rim) stars as Kumiko, a frustrated Office Lady whose imagination transcends the confines of her mundane life. Kumiko becomes obsessed with a mysterious, battered VHS tape of a popular film she's mistaken for a documentary, fixating on a scene where a suitcase of stolen cash is buried in the desolate, frozen landscape of North Dakota. Believing this treasure to be real, she leaves behind Tokyo and her beloved rabbit Bunzo to recover it - and finds herself on a dangerous adventure unlike anything she's seen in the movies.
