First up from Vin Diesel's Facebook page (via Empire) is news that Russell has indeed joined the cast of Fast & Furious 7. In this case, a picture is worth a thousand words, even if it doesn't tell us exactly what Russell's role will be:
Kurt Russell, such an honor to work with...
P.s. One from set...
In more traditional news reporting, Deadline has Akinnuoye-Agbaje joining Annie as "Nash, the tough but lovable bodyguard and driver for Stacks (Jamie Foxx) and a good friend of Annie." He'll start shooting tomorrow. Cameron Diaz and Rose Byrne also star in the remake slotted for a Christmas Day, 2014 release.
We recently reported that Butler was circling Gods of Egypt, the fantasy adventure picture set amidst the mythology of ancient Egypt. The plot follows Horus (Coster-Waldau) as he sets out for revenge against his uncle for killing his father, Osiris. Butler would play Set, the murderous brother of Osiris and a god of the desert, storms, and foreigners. Heat Vision reports that Rush has closed a deal to "play the sun god Ra, the father of Set and Osiris who is also Set’s ultimate target." They also mention that "a young human thief in love with a slave" will aid Horus in his quest, so apparently there are some less lofty (yet no less heroic) roles available in this one.
