Kurt Sutter's Sons of Anarchy may be done for the year, but the creator/showrunner already has a project lined up once the biker drama series takes it's final ride in the seventh season.  Sutter is sticking with FX (and why wouldn't he?) and teaming up with Brian Grazer to develop a pilot for the drama series, The Bastard Executioner.  In keeping with Sutter's dark and violent material, the series centers on one of King Edward III's warrior knights whose soul is broken by war, but must pick up the sword when violence finds him once again.  Sutter will pen the script with filming on the pilot slated to begin late next year when Sons of Anarchy wraps for good.  Hit the jump for more.

Deadline reports that The Bastard Executioner has been given a pilot order by FX, with Sutter, Grazer and Francie Calfo on as executive producers.  Sutter kept his reaction simple, saying:

“I love the network. I love the world. I love the blood.”

FX Networks CEO John Landgraf had a bit more to say on the project and continuing the relationship with Sutter:

"[H]e has conceived a deep, provocative and historically precise narrative journey into our Medieval past– and I have no doubt The Bastard Executioner will be another remarkably original and gripping series. We’re also thrilled to be in business with Brian Grazer who is one of the most gifted film and television producers in the business.”

Speaking of Grazer, he expanded a bit more on the idea behind The Bastard Executioner:

“I find the executioner to be an incredibly fascinating and provocative character,” Grazer said. “He deals with the highest order and the lowest order in the culture. It’s about as morally complex a profession as you can imagine, and it is going to make for a spellbinding series.”

Good news for Sutter fans!
