"Shrek" producer John H. Williams and his Vanguard Films corp. has picked up the rights to the cult comic series "Emo Boy" and has set Kyle "Fanboys" Newman to direct the project for the big screen. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Vanguard has also hired the comic's writer and artist, Stephen Edmond, to adapt the screenplay.

As you might guess from its title, "Emo Boy" concerns the fashion/lifestyle choice that is "emo" – I guess they mean emotive or emotional by the term, though as far as I can tell, emo just means you like to scratch yourself with safety pins while listening to bad music and blowing hair out of your eyes.

Published by Slave Labor Graphics, the comic "Emo Boy" follows the existential adventures of the most self-dramatizing young man in the world whose emotions are so intense that they cause him to develop special 'emo' powers. As these powers can lead to nothing very good (see "Spiderman 3") I'm assuming that Emo Boy will be one of them "flawed heroes". Hey, lucky for Vanguard that that variety of superhero is all the rage at the moment… too bad I can't say the same for black turtlenecks.
