A Star Is Born may not have swept the Oscars the way early forecasters would have had you believe, but Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper still walked away with one of the one the night's most iconic moments -- and I'm not talking about Gaga's well-deserved win. The film's powerhouse duo reunited on stage to perform the Best Original Song winner 'Shallow' and the performance was a highlight of the ceremony -- a gorgeously directed love song that channeled the old school movie magic of Cooper's directorial debut and showed off the chemistry between the two performers.

And I mean a lot of chemistry. So much so that the internet has run rampant with speculation in recent days and collectively losing their minds over one of the best-directed and most effective Oscar performances of all time. With her Oscar in tow, Gaga stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live to set the gossip-mongers straight. With an emphatic roll of the eyes, Gaga tells Kimmel, “Yes, people saw love and guess what? That’s what we wanted you to see. This is a love song, 'Shallow'. A Star Is Born is a love story,” she continued. “I’m an artist and I guess we did a good job… fooled ya!” she said with a laugh.

Even better, Gaga offered some insight into how the segment came together. As it turns out, there's a reason the performance channeled the film's movie magic so well -- Cooper directed it! "Everything that you saw, the way that it was shot, the way that they pushed the piano out, you saw them put the piano together, us walking up on stage… no intro, that was all him."

Gaga also teased the upcoming re-release of the film, which includes 12 additional minutes, including an early look at one of the new scenes. The full interview below, followed by Gaga and Cooper's performance -- just in case you haven't watched it 100 times.
