During yesterday's Disney presentation at CinemaCon (formerly ShoWest), the studio showed about 26 minutes of Cars 2 to theater owners.  While Cars is nowhere close to my favorite Pixar movie, the sequel looks to be a huge improvement as the movie is taking the cast around the world and introducing a spy element.  Also, the animation looked incredible.  The beginning of the film (which takes place in the middle of the ocean) I was captivated just watching the waves and the way the light reflected off the surface.  A short time later, the movie goes into full action mode with a huge action scene featuring Michael Caine as Finn McMissile.  While I would still love to have seen a sequel to The Incredibles before Cars 2, I'll admit the footage sold me and I'm a lot more interested in seeing the completed film.

Shortly after the presentation ended, I got a few minutes with Larry the Cable Guy (Mater).  He talked about what people can look forward to in the sequel, what it's like to record the dialogue, how much is scripted versus improve, and we also talked about the perks of being in a huge Disney franchise and what's his karaoke song.  Cars 2 gets released June 24 and it features the voices of Owen Wilson, Tony Shalhoub, Emily Mortimer and many others.

Larry the Cable Guy

  • What's his karaoke song
  • After starring in a hugely successful Disney movie, does he get a lifetime pass to the park
  • What can people be looking forward to in Cars 2
  • What was the recording process like. Lots of imrpov?
