That was fast! According to TVline.com NBC's resurrection of the original Law & Order series is set to premiere on Thursday, February 24th, 2022, just a mere five months since the network announced that they would be bringing the flagship program back to the airwaves.

The announcement was made on Friday, as the network was unveiling their midseason slate. This continuation will be the series' 21st season of the seminal series created by Dick Wolf and will air on Thursday night at 8/7 central. Wolf's other spinoff's Law & Order: SVU and Law & Order: Organized Crime will follow the OG program at 9 and 10 pm, respectively. This gives NBC another night dedicated to Wolf universe, as Wednesday night airs Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago P.D., which Wolf created with fellow executive producer Derek Hass (Wanted, 3:10 To Yuma). Hass and Wolf also have a shared universe FBI series that airs on Tuesday nights on CBS.

Law & Order was abruptly canceled back in 2010 at the end of the 20th season and left many fans, including Wolf himself, feeling like the best was yet to come. "There are very few things in life that are literally dream come true. This is mine," he said about the Season 21 order.

While we've been given a date and time, there hasn't been much in the way of which original cast members might be returning. There were rumors in September when the official order was announced, that preliminary conversation with original cast members had started to take place, but nothing has been confirmed as of yet. Collider recently reported that Burn Notice alum, Jeffrey Donovan, has joined the revival as a police officer, with no further details being made about his character.

During the announcement, the chairman of Entertainment Content at NBCUniversal Television and Streaming, Susan Rovner, indicated that the new all-Law&Order Thursday would certainly offer "countless opportunities for crossovers across all three series."

Rovner said, at the time of the 21st order announcement that:

“Law & Order is quite simply one of the most iconic shows in television history, and the idea of continuing its legacy and partnering with Dick on an all-new season is nothing short of exhilarating. This is great news for NBC as well as TV fans everywhere."

Law & Order's first 20 seasons can be viewed on NBC's streaming platform Peacock.
