Lea Michele and Kate Upton are teaming up with William H. Macy for his upcoming road trip sex comedy The LayoverMacy is set to direct and appear in the film from a script by David Hornsby and Lance Krall. The writing duo previously collaborated on the hilarious FX comedy It's Always Sunny in Philadelphiaon which Hornsby is a writer, producer and co-star. Macy previously directed the rock-n-roll drama Rudderless in 2014.

Michele and Upton are set to play a pair of life-long friends whose dream vacation goes off the rails when their plane is rerouted due to a hurricane warning. While stuck in an extended layover in St. Louis, the pals find themselves competing for the same guy.

On the casting of his leading ladies, Macy says:

The minute I met Lea and Kate, the film began to focus for me. They are singular, ambitious funny women in full. This is going to be fun.

I have to say, everything about this rubs me the wrong way. God knows, if you're stuck on a long layover, the only thing to do is get in a battle with your best friend over some random dude. Romantic comedies that resort to the "hot guy comes between two BFFs" plot-line tend to be among the most insipid of the bunch. It's almost as bad as the career-driven woman who can't possibly have time for love. However, this is William H. Macy's gig, so I'm going to give it the benefit of the doubt. The man is a fantastic actor, extremely well trained in theater, who always brings more to a role than expected. Hopefully, as a director, he can bring more to this film than expected, too.
