It was only a matter of time until someone develop a sequel to the 1996 live-action/animated mash-up movie, Space Jam.  Brothers Charlie and Willie Ebersol will develop the sequel as a starring vehicle for Miami Heat star, LeBron James.  Charlie will produce through his The Company banner, while Emmy-winning Willie will pen the screenplay.  There are no further details as to who else will appear in the sequel, but you can be sure that the stars of both the NBA and the WB will be on display.  Hit the jump for more.

Deadline reports that the Ebersols are developing Space Jam 2 for Warner Bros. with James expected to star.  While it's taken 18 years to move forward on this sequel, you can't really blame the studio as they've likely been waiting for someone on par with Michael Jordan to step in.  James certainly fits the bill on the court, and he's already taking his talents to the big screen in other projects.  A few months back, we reported that James would be starring alongside Kevin Hart as basketball-loving brothers in Ballers.

If you're too young to know what the heck Space Jam is, or just want to dip into nostalgia, watch the original trailer below:
