We've seen a few looks at writer-director Brian Helgeland's upcoming biographical crime-thriller Legend already, but each cut seems to get better than the last. Starring Tom Hardy in dual roles of London's identical twin gangsters Ronald and Reginald Kray, this 1960s-set film looks like it has shades of Ridley Scott's American Gangster, Francis Ford Coppola's The Godfather: Part II, and Guy Ritchie's Snatch. If that all sounds a bit schizophrenic to you, well then it's probably designed that way. Legend follows the Krays as they attempt to dominate London's criminal underworld and extend their empire with the help of the American Mafia, all while being hunted by British authorities.

Reggie, the less volatile of the two, also has to manage his unhinged brother while attempting to maintain a somewhat normal romantic relationship under less-than-normal circumstances. It's safe to say that with all of these personal, financial, and familial entanglements complicating things, some of them are going to have to give, and that resolution promises to be spectacular.

The film opens October 2nd, and also stars Emily Browning, Paul BettanyDavid Thewlis, Christopher Eccleston, Chazz Palminteri, Tara Fitzgerald, and Taron Egerton.
