One of the good things about Legends of Tomorrow is that it’s structured to get a soft reboot with each new season, shaking up the legends and (hopefully) course-correcting with a better villain. It is definitely unfortunate to lose cast members like Wentworth Miller’s Captain Cold, who is moving into a more general role within the Arrow-verse, but it means allowing for new characters like Hourman (Patrick J. Adams) and the introduction of the Justice Society.
Now, according to TV Insider, Mari McCabe a.k.a. Vixen will also be joining the Waverider team as a series regular on Legends for Season 2. However … she won’t be played by Megalyn E.K., who voices Vixen in the CW Seed animated series, and who appeared as the character in live-action form on this last season of Arrow.
That’s a huge disappointment, as I thought Vixen was one of the best additions to what was otherwise a sloppy and lackluster season of Arrow. But, E.K.’s schedule is preventing her from joining the Legends cast — she just wrapped on A&E’s Damien, and has joined the comedy Step Sisters, now filming in Atlanta.
It seems that the new Vixen, though, will be a past incarnation, and may have ties to present-day Mari (finally using those time-traveling powers for something smart, I see). That leaves the door open for E.K. to return to the Arrow-verse if she’s able to. Also, she will continue voicing the character on the Vixen animated series.
