‘Legion’: FX Confirms Early 2017 Release Date with a Crazy Awesome New Teaser

     October 18, 2016

There’s no shortage of superhero entertainment these days, especially on TV, but if there’s one newcomer I’m truly excited about, it’s Noah Hawley‘s mutant mind-bender, Legion. The far-out looking X-Men semi-spinoff comes from the visionary creator of the FX series Fargo, and centers on the mutant David Haller, a tremendously powerful mutant who’s also might just be completely crazy. Hawley seems to be leaning into all the visual and narrative opportunities of that madness with glee, and Legion is shaping up to be one of the most innovative and unusual X-Men projects to ever hit the screen.

Hawley cooked up the series with X-Men: Days of Future Past and Apocalypse writer/producer Simon Kinberg, and the duo are also executive producing alongside Kinberg’s X-Men collaborators Bryan Singer and Lauren Shuler Donner, Marvel TV big guns Jeph Loeb and Jim Chory, and Hawley’s Fargo co-producer John Cameron.  Downton Abbey breakout and The Guest scene-stealer Dan Stevens leads the series as Haller, a diagnosed schizophrenic who falls for a mutant woman and realizes the voices and visions in his head might just be real.

Watch the Legion teaser below. The series also stars Rachel Keller, Jean SmartKatie Asleton, Jeremie Harris, Amber Midthunder, Bill Irwin, Katie Aselton, Jemaine Clement, and Aubrey Plaza. While we still don’t have an exact release date, the new trailer comes with the confirmation that Legion will premiere in February 2017.

Here’s the official synopsis for Legion:

Legion follows David Haller, a troubled young man who may be more than human. Diagnosed as schizophrenic, David has been in and out of psychiatric hospitals for years. But after a strange encounter with a fellow patient, he’s confronted with the possibility that the voices he hears and visions might be real. Legion debuts in early 2017 and is produced by FX Productions and Marvel Television.
