Funnyman Zach Galifianakis is in talks to play the voice of the Joker in Chris McKay’s The LEGO Batman Movie. If you’re currently hearing Felix from Bob’s Burgers or Humpty Dumpty from Puss in Boots in your head, you’ve got the right idea. With Galifianakis possibly voicing the Clown Prince of Crime, we can now get a better idea of what the dialogue between the heroes and villains will sound like since Will Arnett reprises his The LEGO Movie role as Bruce Wayne/Batman, with the recent addition of Michael Cera as Dick Grayson/Robin. I expect an awful lot of awkward pauses.

THR reports that Galifianakis is in final negotiations to play Batman’s arch-nemesis in McKay’s LEGO Batman. The spin-off will be produced by the LEGO movie franchise stewards, Dan Lin, Roy Lee, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. McKay steps up from Animation Supervisor on The LEGO Movie to the director’s chair on this installment, which was scripted by Seth Grahame-Smith. There’s still not much information available in the way of plot, though Miller did say that “every era of Batman filmmaking will be acknowledged,” so expect to see quite the range from campy to gritty, with the Joker at the heart of whatever chaos is caused.

As for Galifianakis, he’ll next be seen in Jared Hess’ heist-comedy Masterminds, and the upcoming TV comedy series, Baskets. He also recently completed filming on Greg Mottola’s spy comedy Keeping Up with the Joneses, which also stars Jon Hamm, Gal Gadot, and Isla Fisher. That film is due to debut on April 1, 2016.

The LEGO Batman Movie opens in theaters on February 10, 2017.
