One of the funniest movies of 2012 so far has been the pleasantly surprising 21 Jump Street.  Directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller (Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs) brought their goofy humor to this feature film iteration of the popular TV series that was buoyed by some terrific comedic performances from Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum.  For their next project, Lord and Miller have been hard at work on a feature-length LEGO movie.  Though plot details are scarce, we know that the film will incorporate some of the most popular LEGO characters while introducing some new ones, and it centers on a young hero who must save the LEGO world from destruction.Warner Bros. announced today that they have set the film for a February 28th, 2014 release and they have confirmed that it will be in 3D.  Hit the jump for more, including what competition the pic will face on that date.Lord and Miller previously talked to Steve about the film early last month, confirming that they were getting ready to start casting (about 20% of the film will be live-action) and revealing that there will be some IP LEGO characters popping up in the film (ie. LEGO Harry Potter, LEGO Star Wars, etc.).  The two also revealed that the film takes place in an immersive all-LEGO environment, “to the point where if there’s water or clouds or like a big explosion, that will be made out of animated LEGOs.”Though it was pretty much a given that the film would be in 3D since it’s computer-animated, I actually think this environment that Lord and Miller are creating could lend itself to a great 3D experience.  They described their approach as “super charged stop-motion, something like if Michael Bay kidnapped Henry Selick to make a movie for him,” so expect some fantastic 3D LEGO action in February of 2014.lego-movie-imageSpeaking of the release date, the only other film currently slated for February is the sequel Cloudy 2: Revenge of the Leftovers.  Lord and Miller are only serving as producers on the Cloudy sequel, but if these two films live up to the quality of 21 Jump Street and the first Cloudy, we’re in for a very fun February.  Read the full press release below.
