A24 Films has released a new Life After Beth clip for director Jeff Baena’s upcoming comedy.  The film stars Dane DeHaan as a young man whose girlfriend (Aubrey Plaza) comes back from the dead, only to start deteriorating into a flesh-craving zombie.  This new clip comes from a scene early in the film, when DeHaan barges into his girlfriend’s house where he finds her parents (played wonderfully by John C. Reilly and Molly Shannon) are keeping their reanimated daughter hidden.  I caught the pic at Sundance and while it’s very funny, it has a little trouble settling on a tone.  At times it’s a straight-up comedy, at other times it’s a relationship drama, and at other times it’s a flat-out zombie movie.  Nevertheless, Plaza turns in a delightful performance as the titular Beth, proving her range goes much further than deadpan.

Hit the jump to watch the Life After Beth clip, and be sure to check out my Sundance interviews with Plaza & DeHaan and writer/director Jeff Baena.  The film also stars Matthew Gray Gubler, Paul Reiser, Anna Kendrick, and Cheryl HinesLife After Beth debuts exclusively on DirecTV on July 17th and opens in limited release on August 15th.
