Cinderella star Lily James is in talk to join Ansel Elgort (The Fault in Our Stars) in Edgar Wright's Baby Driver. Wright will direct and write the film starring Elgort as a getaway driver who relies on his own personal soundtrack to be the best in the game. James will play his love interest, a diner waitress. While I think we're all still recovering from losing Wright's vision of Ant-Man (and we're going to have to get over that someday), the prospect of a new all-out Edgar Wright film is extremely exciting.

In addition to the casting news, we've learned a bit of new story information. THR has an updated synopsis:

Ansel Elgort is set to star as a young mute man who has an ear condition that forces him to constantly listen to music in order to drown out the constant ringing in his ears. His character is a driver for a group of bank robbers who goes on the run after a heist goes bad.

James is a lovely young actress, and is currently riding a high wave now that Cinderella has earned more than $500 million internationally. After gracefully carrying a massive Disney film, she's a welcome addition to any project.

While it was always clear that music would play an important role in the film based off the synopsis, the new plot details make it evident just how critical the soundtrack will be. Wright's films have always had excellent soundtracks and I can't wait to see how he connects the music to the a kinetic and sensorial elements of the film. It's also exciting to ponder what the script might look like with a mute lead character. Basically, while I admit a positive bias towards Wright's work, everything about Baby Driver sounds excellent.
