At this point, Lin-Manuel Miranda is probably the leading candidate for having the best year ever. While that's not a particularly high bar in 2016, which has felt acutely brutal to many, Miranda's name has consistently been associated with positive headlines. His hit Broadway musical Hamilton continues to break records despite a boycott, and his movie career is just getting started thanks to soundtrack credits for Star Wars: The Force Awakens and the reigning #1 movie at the box office, Moana. Miranda has a number of other credits to his name and projects in the pipeline, but the latest might be his most ambitious to date.

The Wrap reports that Miranda will be a creative producer behind the planned media franchise inspired by fantasy novelist Patrick Rothfuss' trilogy, "The Kingkiller Chronicle." The aim for this project isn't just a solitary film adaptation but rather one feature film tackling the first book, titled "The Name of the Wind", alongside a TV series. Lionsgate will be the studio behind the project with Lindsey Beer taking on the screenwriting duties. Miranda would act as producer and “musical mastermind” of the franchise, composing original music and writing the songs. He has an option to be involved in future potential stage production adaptations of the books, as well, and both Miranda and Rothfuss will be involved in the development of the new characters and storylines for the TV show.

Lin is an incomparable talent and a huge fan of the trilogy and, working closely with Pat, his creative oversight of the franchise will bring an incredible level of detail and continuity to all of the projects.”

Robert Lawrence, long involved in The Kingkiller Chronicle project, will also produce for film and television as was previously announced. As for Beer, her other credits include the as-of-yet unproduced scripts for Hasbro/Paramount Pictures' properties Visionaries: Knights of the Magical Light, M.A.S.K.: Mobile Armored Strike Kommand, and ROM, as well as Dungeons & Dragons and a Short Circuit reboot.
