Time to break out your calendars, kids!  A slew of new release dates have been announced.  I'm going to rattle off the release dates right now and then you can hit the jump to briefly learn about the film (if you haven't heard about it already) and what it will be playing against.  First up, Box Office Mojo reports that Rian Johnson's Looper is set for September 28, 2012; Roland Emmerich's Anonymous has been pushed back to October 28th; the sci-fi thriller Lockout has been moved to April 13, 2012; the Gerard Butler comedy Playing the Field is slated for March 9, 2012; and the George Clooney political drama The Ides of March has been pushed up a week to October 7th.  Additionally, Cigarettes & Red Vines [via The Playlist] reports that Paul Thomas Anderson's religious drama The Master (unofficial title) is looking at a late 2012 release.Hit the jump for more on all of these films and their current competition at the box office.LOOPERDirected by Rian Johnson (The Brothers Bloom). Starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Bruce Willis, and Emily Blunt.

Looper is a time-travel action thriller involves a killer (Gordon-Levitt) who works for the mob of the future. He, along with other so-called Loopers, dispose of people that are sent from the future. When he recognizes one victim as his future self (Willis), he hesitates, letting the man escape.

The film currently has no competition on September 28, 2012.

ANONYMOUS

Directed by Roland Emmerich (2012).  Starring Rhys Ifans, Vanessa Redgrave, and Joely Richardson.

Set in the political snake-pit of Elizabethan England, Anonymous speculates on an issue that has for centuries intrigued academics and brilliant minds ranging from Mark Twain and Charles Dickens to Henry James and Sigmund Freud, namely: who was the author of the plays credited to William Shakespeare? Experts have debated, books have been written, and scholars have devoted their lives to protecting or debunking theories surrounding the authorship of the most renowned works in English literature. Anonymous poses one possible answer, focusing on a time when cloak-and-dagger political intrigue, illicit romances in the Royal Court, and the schemes of greedy nobles hungry for the power of the throne were exposed in the most unlikely of places: the London stage.

On October 28th, Anonymous will face the sci-fi thriller In Time, the adaptation of Hunter S. Thompson's novel The Rum Diary, and the Jason Statham action flick (redundant, I know) Safe, as well as the limited release of the Sundance hit Like Crazy.

LOCKOUT

Directed by James Mather and Stephen St. Leger.  Starring Guy Pearce, Maggie Grace, and Peter Stormare.

A man is wrongly convicted of conspiracy to commit espionage against the U.S. He's offered his freedom if he can rescue the president's daughter from an outer space prison taken over by violent inmates.

The only other movie currently set for April 13, 2012 is the giant comedic ensemble Movie 43 (tentative title).

PLAYING THE FIELD

Directed by Gabriele Muccino (Seven Pounds).  Starring Gerard Butler, Jessica Biel, and Uma Thurman.

PLAYING THE FIELD kicks off with the homecoming of George (Gerard Butler), a retired soccer pro whose glory days are behind him. Burnt out on his playboy lifestyle and bankrupted by a string of bad investments, George moves back to Virginia to reconnect with his estranged ex-wife (Jessica Biel) and neglected son (Noah Lomax). Making up for lost time, George starts to coach the boys’ soccer team. But can he keep his eyes on the goal when the bleachers are stacked with sexy soccer moms and desperate housewives?

Also set for March 9, 2012 is Andrew Stanton's John Carter (of Mars—add it back, Disney) and James Teigue's untitled The Raven thriller starring John Cusack, Luke Evans, and Alice Eve.

THE IDES OF MARCH

Directed by George Clooney (Good Night, and Good Luck.).  Starring Ryan Gosling, George Clooney, and Marisa Tomei.

Based off the play Farragut North, Ryan Gosling stars a young press spokesman who falls prey to backroom politics.  The play was loosely based on the 2004 presidential campaign of Howard Dean.

The other films set to open on October 7th are Shawn Levy's robot boxing flick Real Steel, David Wain's new comedy Wanderlust, and the limited release of the unnerving psychological drama Martha Marcy May Marlene.

THE MASTER

Directed by Paul Thomas Anderson (There Will Be Blood).  Starring Philip Seymour Hoffman, Joaquin Phoenix, and Amy Adams.

A soldier (Hoffman) returns to America after witnessing the horrors of World War II and creates his own religion.  He recruits a young alcoholic drifter (Phoenix) as his right-hand man.

Obviously, "late 2012" doesn't qualify as a release date, but it shows that Anderson's film will probably be running in the awards race.
