Daredevil recently wrapped production, and Marvel is now gearing up for its next two Netflix superhero series, A.K.A. Jessica Jones and Luke Cage.  As we previously reported, Krysten Ritter will star in Jessica Jones and Mike Colter (The Good Wife) was in line to lead Luke Cage.  THR now confirms that Colter will play the enigmatic hero-for-hire, and will first co-star in A.K.A. Jessica Jones before moving to his own series.  Jessica Jones and Luke Cage have a romantic relationship in the comics, so it's no surprise that the two series are being cast so close together considering the ties between the characters.

Colter is a rising star, and while he's had stints on The Following and The Good Wife, geeks are about to get pretty familiar with him since he'll also be playing the lead in the upcoming Halo miniseries, Halo: Nightfall.  I haven't seen enough of his work to know if he's a good fit for Cage, but one of Marvel's strengths throughout their movies has been casting, so I'm hopeful that Colter will satisfy fans, or at least fans who can be satisfied and not cling to fan-casting that will never be fulfilled.

Earlier this year, Terry Crews said he was game to play Luke Cage, and while I love Crews in everything, I think his reply was the generic actor statement of "I don't turn down roles I haven't even been offered."  Also, I don't know if he would have been able to fit both Jessica Jones and Luke Cage into his schedule since he also does Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

So it's probably best to set aside the "What if?", and root for Colter since in addition to appearing in Jessica Jones and starring in Luke Cage, THR reports he'll also be part of the big team-up movie, The Defenders, which will bring together Cage, Jones, Daredevil (Charlie Cox), and the yet-to-be-cast Iron Fist.
