MACBETH Trailer: All Hail Fassbender and Cotillard in the Justin Kurzel’s Adaptation

     June 4, 2015

StudioCanal UK has released the first Macbeth trailer online. For those who decided to skip their high school lit classes, Shakespeare’s play is about the eponymous general (Michael Fassbender) who, with the help of his wife/co-conspirator (Marion Cotillard) murders the king and takes the throne only to be overtaken by paranoia and madness.

Madness is certainly what’s on display with this trailer. Director Justin Kurzel has brought an intense, eerie tone to his adaptation, and Fassbender and Cotillard look terrific in their respective roles. The movie picked up positive notices when it debuted at Cannes, and I can’t wait to see it when it’s released later this year.

Check out the trailer below. The film also stars Sean Harris, Paddy Considine, David Thewlis, Jack Reynor, and Elizabeth Debicki.

Here’s the official synopsis for Macbeth:

MACBETH is the story of a fearless warrior and inspiring leader (Michael Fassbender) brought low by ambition and desire. A thrilling interpretation of the dramatic realities of the times and a reimagining of what wartime must have been like for one of Shakespeare’s most famous and compelling characters, a story of all-consuming passion and ambition, set in war torn Scottish landscape.
