We’ve reported on a new casting story for Robert Rodriguez’s sequel Machete Kills every day for the past three days, so to send you out for the weekend on a high note today’s addition is the lovely Sofia VergaraVariety reports that the Modern Family star is in talks to play “the leather-clad Madame Desdemona, whose Mexican heriots have information that Machete needs.”  And with that casting choice, Rodriguez has sewn up a solid opening weekend.

Danny Trejo returns as the titular Machete, joined by Michelle Rodriguez and Jessica Alba reprising their roles from the first film.  The story finds Machete “recruited by the U.S. government to take down a cartel leader and stop an arms dealer from launching a deadly missile.”  Mel Gibson is onboard as the villainous arms dealer, while Demian Bichir and Amber Heard round out the other newcomers that have signed on so far.  Production begins this month, after which Rodriguez will shoot the long-awaited Sin City sequel, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.
