‘Maleficent: Mistress of Evil’ Trailer Has Angelina Jolie Squaring off Against Michelle Pfeiffer

     May 14, 2019

Disney has released the first trailer for Maleficent: Mistress of Evil. The sequel to the 2014 spin on Sleeping Beauty has Angelina Jolie reprising her role as the misunderstood sorceress and this time putting her at the center of a new battle to protect the magical creatures from humans.

But watching this trailer, I don’t really care. The first Maleficent was pretty forgettable even though Jolie was clearly having a ball playing the character. It was a weak story and while putting Sleeping Beauty in a live-action context is neat, the story was flat and everything was overshadowed by expensive visuals. And judging by the trailer for Mistress of Evil, someone said, “Yes, more of that, please.” Maybe the movie will be good, but right now I don’t see anything here that tempts me to dive back into the world of Maleficent.

Check out the trailer below. The film opens October 18th and also stars Michelle Pfeiffer, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Sam Riley, Harris Dickinson, Ed Skrein, Imelda Staunton, Juno Temple, and Lesley Manville.

Here’s the official synopsis for Maleficent: Mistress of Evil:
