Disney has released a new trailer for the live-action Sleeping Beauty reimaging, Maleficent.  The film tells the famous fairy tale from the perspective of the eponymous villain, played by Angelina Jolie.  There was a new trailer last week, and while it was good, I like this one better because it puts the emphasis on the eye-catching visuals, which isn’t too surprising when you consider that the director is Robert Stromberg, who earned Oscars for his art direction on Alice in Wonderland and Avatar.  It also looks like Jolie is having a blast with the role without chewing the scenery.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer.  The film also stars Elle Fanning, Sharlto CopleySam RileyImelda StauntonMiranda RichardsonJuno Temple, and Lesley ManvilleMaleficent opens in 3D on May 30th.

Here’s the official synopsis for Maleficent:

From Disney comes “Maleficent”—the untold story of Disney’s most iconic villain from the 1959 classic “Sleeping Beauty.” A beautiful, pure-hearted young woman, Maleficent has an idyllic life growing up in a peaceable forest kingdom, until one day when an invading army threatens the harmony of the land. Maleficent rises to be the land’s fiercest protector, but she ultimately suffers a ruthless betrayal—an act that begins to turn her pure heart to stone. Bent on revenge, Maleficent faces an epic battle with the invading king’s successor and, as a result, places a curse upon his newborn infant Aurora. As the child grows, Maleficent realizes that Aurora holds the key to peace in the kingdom—and perhaps to Maleficent’s true happiness as well.
