This month, New York City’s Bottleneck Gallery will debut their latest show, a celebration of premium cable featuring brand-new artwork from some of Limited Paper’s favorite artists:  guys like Mark Englert, New Flesh, Godmachine, and Todd Slater all have new pieces dropping at the show’s opening, and we’re pretty impatient to see what the full lineup looks like.  Luckily for us, Bottleneck Gallery has agreed to share a few images from the show with us…and they’ve also given us the go-ahead to tell you about a few of the surprises that await those who hit More Than You Imagined when it opens September 7th.

Wanna know more?  Of course you do.  Meet me after the jump, my fellow limited paper enthusiasts.

If you’re a hardcore poster collector, then you’re probably already well-aware of More Than You Imagined, the big-ass gallery show hitting NYC’s Bottleneck Gallery on September 7th:  for weeks now, the Gallery’s been building buzz about the event, and by now collectors are pretty anxious to see what they’ve put together.  Things got off to a strong start when Bottleneck revealed that the Game of Thrones-themed flier for the show (seen below) featured new artwork from Mark Englert (!!!), but fans were even more intrigued after reading the flier’s lineup of artists.  Here, check it out:

That’s a pretty serious roster, huh?  Besides Limited Paper favorite Mark Englert, you’ve got new work from New Flesh, Godmachine, Todd Slater, Josh Budich, Sam Ho, Kevin Ang, Josh Budich…the list goes on and on.  As you’ve probably guessed, Limited Paper got in touch with the Bottleneck crew as soon as the show was announced, at which point they described the show thusly:

Television plays a crucial role in our lives, influencing our opinions, actions, and daily routine. It is only natural that the small screen would also influence art, linking the two through memorable stories and images. Bottleneck Gallery has decided to embrace this connection and commission an incredible group of artists for “More Than You Imagined: Art Inspired by Premium Cable.” This exciting and entertaining exhibit will feature work influenced by some of the most popular HBO, Showtime, and Starz programs, giving you a reason to get off of the couch.

This is a great idea for an event (the HBO prints alone are almost certain to be across-the-board must-buys), and the artwork we’ve seen thus far from the event has been seriously impressive.   And now that we’re days away from the show’s September 7th opening, Bottleneck has given us the go-ahead to share some of those preview images with you…and we’ll start with a surprise.

Most of you probably saw Englert’s Game of Thrones-themed flier(the one above) awhile ago, back when the show was first announced.  Since then, I’ve seen more than a few people looking for a poster-buddy to Bottleneck’s show, and plenty of ‘em have asked their PB’s to snag a copy of Englert’s flier.  Well, if you’re one of those people (or if you were just hoping the flier—titled Blood of The Dragons, don’tcha know—would be turned into a print), we’ve got good news:   it can now be revealed  that the flier will be turned into an extremely limited-edition screenprint.  Let’s talk about that first:

  • Blood of The Dragons by Mark Englert
  • 8.5x11” edition of (somewhere between 25 and 65, final number TBD)
  • 10 will be sold on eBay only, with all proceeds benefiting the Michael J. Fox Foundation
  • Auctions will start September 6th at 7:30pm, last through Sunday

Now, there’s also going to be a second version of this print, one that will only be given to those who purchase two or more pieces during the show’s opening on September 7th.  That version will be revealed during the show, and sounds like it will come from an edition of 75 (any unsold copies from that edition of 75 will be sold online at a later date).  In other words, whether you’re at home, at the Gallery, have a poster-buddy on the scene for you, or if you’re hoping to snag one in a giveaway at some point in the future…there will be plenty of chances to score one of Englert’s Blood of The Dragons prints.  Stay tuned for more details on that one as they become available.

Now, let’s look at Mark’s other piece for the show:

  • Stop Listening to The Static by Mark Englert
  • 18x24”
  • Features GID Inks

Well, yet again, we’re shown that no one knows how to use GID as effectively as Mark Englert.  This print—which, if you couldn’t tell, is based on HBO’s Six Feet Under—is  another in a long line of homeruns for Mark, and if we had to put our money on one print selling out before all others once Bottleneck opens it doors on Friday….it’d be this one.

But let’s not forget all the other artwork debuting at the show!  Bottleneck passed along some other preview images (note:  these aren’t necessarily the final titles for each piece;  rather, they are placeholders until we know specific titles/get clarification), and they’re all just as impressive.  Let’s take a look at ‘em now, in no particular order:

  • Boardwalk Empire by New Flesh
  • Game of Thrones by Raid 71

  • The Wire by Tim Doyle

  • Spartacus by Marie Bergeron

  • Agrestic Burning (based on Weeds) by Josh Budich
  • 12x24” 3-color screenprint
  • $30 regular edition of 100 (55 sold at the show)

Looking pretty solid so far, right?  More Than You Imagined—which, Bottleneck reminds us, is being sponsored by the fine folks at Brooklyn Brewery and Union Square Wines & Spirits (you bet your ass drinks will be available at the show)—has a ton of artwork dropping at the show’s September 7th opening.  Anyone who doesn’t make it to the event’s opening can swing by to pick up any unsold pieces starting September 8th at noon, and the show itself will be available for viewing at the gallery through September 28th.

We’re going to have more information about the show as we get closer to the event (and especially once it opens:  we should have a huge report for you around then), but if you’re looking for updates that are a bit more “straight from the tap”, you can following along with the event’s progress at Bottleneck Gallery’s Facebook page or by following the Gallery on Twitter for up-to-the-minute updates.
