Judging from the amount of money J.J. AbramsStar Trek Into Darkness earned this weekend, it seems fair to say that audiences everywhere are still very much onboard with the director’s lens-flare-tastic interpretation of Gene Rodenberry’s iconic sci-fi series.  But y’know who’s really onboard with Star Trek right now?  Mark Englert fans.  Turned out that Paramount hired the increasingly-popular artist to create a Trek-themed poster to celebrate the film’s release, and then they handed ‘em out—free of charge-- during last Wednesday’s first round of IMAX screenings.

Awesome for those in attendance, sure, but what about those that missed out?  Well, Limited Paper comes bearing good news:  Paramount and Englert have another surprise for you.  Set phasers to “Info Dump” and meet me after the jump, where I’ll tell you what that surprise is, where and when it’s going to drop, what it looks like, and what you’re gonna have to do to get your hands on one.

If you’re a Mark Englert fan, then you probably already knew that the dude’s latest poster arrived in the form of a giveaway lithograph that was distributed during last Wednesday’s IMAX screenings of Star Trek Into Darkness.  In case you haven’t been paying attention, here’s what that poster looked like:

  • No Ship Should Go Down Without Her Captain by Mark Englert
  • 12x36” IMAX FANFIX lithograph
  • Free to those attending last Wednesday’s IMAX screenings of Star Trek Into Darkness

First of all, it seems a little congrats are in order:  one doesn’t often get tapped by one of Hollywood’s biggest studios and asked to create something like this.  We’re sure Mark’s honored to have been asked, and as well he should be.  Secondly, yes, I know what you’re thinking:  “But what if I missed out on snagging one of these sweet-ass Star Trek lithographs?  Is there no hope for me?”  We’re glad you asked.  Limited Paper is thrilled to exclusively reveal the first details regarding the variant edition of Mark’s Star Trek Into Darkness poster.  First up, let’s see what it looks like:

  • No Ship Should Go Down Without Her Captain (Variant) by Mark Englert
  • 12x36” IMAX FANFIX lithograph
  • Free to the first 300 in line for select IMAX screenings of STID on Friday, May 24th

So, here’s the news:  this coming Friday, if you’re one of the first 300 people in line to see Star Trek Into Darkness you'll get a poster.  So if you'd like a poster, head on over to this page to buy your tickets for that IMAX theater’s Friday-night screening of Star Trek Into Darkness.

Congrats again to Mark Englert on yet another successful release, and congrats to both J.J. Abrams and Paramount on those opening-week box office receipts.  Hey, good thing Abrams has nothing important on his schedule at the moment so he can immediately get started making the third one (note:  this article written by someone who’s been in a coma for the past six months)!

Good luck to anyone going after one of these;  everyone else, you know the drill:  if you’re an artist or gallery with artwork you’d like to see featured on Limited Paper (or if you’re just some lucky bastard who happened to overhear a bit of poster-related gossip while standing in the bushes outside Martin Ansin’s house) we wanna hear from you!  Email Limited Paper directly at LimitedPaper@gmail.com, and be sure that you’re following us on Twitter via @LimitedPaper for ongoing commentary, news updates, giveaways, and more!
