We’ve got a couple of casting stories to share with you today. First up, Royal Pains star Mark Feuerstein is set to join the romantic sci-fi indie In Your Eyes. Written by Joss Whedon, the film centers on two people (Michael Stahl-David and Zoe Kazan) who live on opposite sides of the country but are able to see and hear each other despite having never met. Variety reports that Feuerstein will play Kazan’s “cold, controlling husband.” It’s certainly an intriguing story and I’m a sucker for low-budget/indie sci-fi. Production is set to begin soon in Los Angeles and Boston.

Additionally, it was announced today that production has begun on the horror pic Dark Was the Night with Kevin Durand (Real Steel) and Lukas Haas (Contraband) in the leads. The Black List script centers on “the isolated town of Maiden Woods, where a nearby logging company has disrupted the balance of the life in the woods. From the frozen forest, an evil will emerge and threaten the local citizens; their only hope being the local Sheriff and his trusted Deputy.” Jack Heller is directing, and the film is said to include a “never-before-seen monster”. Sabina Gadecki, Heath Freeman, and Nick Damici also star. Read the full press release below.

SOUTHAMPTON, NY (February 17, 2012)-- Caliber Media Co., Sundial Pictures and Preferred Content have started production on the talked-about thriller script, DARK WAS THE NIGHT. Shooting begins Sunday, February 19th.  Kevin Durand (REAL STEEL, ROBIN HOOD) and Lukas Haas (CONTRABAND, INCEPTION) will star in and battle with a never-before-seen monster in director Jack Heller's upcoming horror feature.  The script, from Tyler Hisel, appeared on the 2009 Black List of best un-produced scripts, a rarity for the monster genre, under the title THE TREES.

“Respectful to the success of vampire and zombie movies, we were immediately attracted to Tyler’s all-new monster mythology,” said producer Dallas Sonnier. “Jack has a great vision for bringing it to the big screen.”
