Per Variety, Tony Award-winning actor Mark Rylance will star opposite Tom Hanks in director Steven Spielberg’s untitled Cold War thriller.  The story follows an American attorney enlisted by the CIA to slip into Russia and negotiate the release of a pilot who was captured when his U2 spy plane was shot down.  Hanks will play the attorney, but Rylance’s role is unknown.  The actor was previously in negotiations to play Johnny Depp’s father in the Alice in Wonderland sequel, but the deal never made.  This new project is even more promising though, with Joel and Ethan Coen doing the latest draft of the script.  Production begins this fall, after which Spielberg will move on to directing the family film The BFG.

Additionally, Dave Franco has confirmed that he will be starring opposite his brother in The Disaster Artist, which is the story of the making of one of the worst films of all time: The Room.  James Franco will play writer/director/star/tortured genius Tommy Wiseau, while Dave will be filling the role of actor Greg Sestro.  James broke the news on Instagram.

Per Variety, Marion Cotillard will be leading director Nicole Garcia’s period drama Mal de Pierres, which is an adaptation of Milena Agus’ novel.  The story takes place after WWII and spans two decades, following a free-spirited woman who is in a loveless marriage and falls for another man.

Finally, Lionsgate has announced that Rose Salazar (Parenthood) and Australian actor Keiynan Lonsdale (Dance Academy) will play Lynn and Uriah, respectively, in the Divergent sequel The Divergent Series: Insurgent.  Uriah is a fan-favorite character who was left out of director Neil Burger’s first film, but who plays an integral emotional role in the last two books of author Veronica Roth’s trilogy.  He is a member of Dauntless alongside Shailene Woodley’s Tris.  Robert Schwentke is directing the follow-up in Atlanta, which is scheduled for release on March 20, 2015.
