Mark Strong (Kick-Ass) has joined the cast of Tomas Alfredson’s upcoming thriller Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy.  Producer Tim Bevan didn’t tell the Mail Online [via The Playlist] what role Strong (who has been cast heavily as The Heavy in films as of late) would be playing, but he did say that actress Svetlana Khodchenhova has also joined the cast and will play the role of Russian spy Irina.  Bevan added that Alfredson’s film will also keep the Cold War setting of John Le Carre’s original novel.

Strong and Khodchenhova join an already superb cast led by Gary Oldman and co-starring Colin Firth, Tom Hardy, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jared Harris, and Ciaran Hinds.  Strong was most recently seen in Peter Weir’s war film The Way Back.  He’ll be seen next year in the Roman action flick The Eagle and as Sinestro in Warner Bros.’ blockbuster superhero movie Green Lantern.
