We recently reported that the roles of Gwen Stacy and the main villain for the upcoming Spider-Man reboot have been given to Emma Stone and Rhys Ifans, respectively. Now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the next actor to join the increasingly respectable cast will be Martin Sheen who is set to play Uncle Ben. As we all know, Uncle Ben is one of the most important characters of the Spider-Man universe, as he is essentially the one responsible for inspiring Peter Parker (to be played by Andrew Garfield) to stop being such a pushover and suit up as the amazing Spider-Man.  More after the jump:

“With great power, comes great responsibility.” If you are familiar with this line you have either seen the first Spider-Man starring Tobey Maguire or you’ve listened to far too many inspirational speakers try to connect with a young audience. Whichever the case, it stands as arguably one of the most classic lines in superhero movie history and is attributed to Peter Parker’s uncle, Ben. And now the Martin Sheen, famous for his lead roles in Apocalypse Now, The Departed and The West Wing TV series (as well as father to one of the most irresponsible uncles on TV, Charlie Sheen), will embody him.

While Uncle Ben has been confirmed to be in the film, we are not exactly sure how he will be portrayed. Meaning, it is unclear whether he will be a living character and we'll be watching Spider-Man's origin again, or if he will appear in flashbacks. Whatever it may be, I know I will hold to the highest regard whatever Martin Sheen says as Parker’s all-knowing uncle.
