Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is officially on winter hiatus, which means the debut of Marvel’s Agent Carter is just around the corner, and now the first Agent Carter clip has landed online.  The series follows the character of Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) from Captain America: The First Avenger, as she navigates the gender politics of 1946 while working as an administrative assistant for the SSR (Strategic Scientific Reserve) and dabbling in spy work for Howard Stark (Dominic Cooper) on the side.  I’m not crazy about Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., but Agent Carter has real promise and this first clip offers a preview of how Carter hides her double life from her roommate.  On an aesthetic level, the colors and costumes are a step up from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., though I’m curious to see if the fuzzy lens (it’s old-timey, see!) becomes a distraction or works well in concert with the rest of the show.

Check out the first Agent Carter clip after the jump.  The show also stars James D’Arcy as Edwin Jarvis, Chad Michael Murray as Agent Jack Thompson, Enver Gjokaj as Agent Daniel Sousa and Shea Whigham as Chief Roger Dooley.  The two-hour Agent Carter premiere airs on ABC Tuesday, January 6th.

Via ABC.

Here’s the synopsis for the first episode, “Now Is Not the End”, written by Captain America scribes Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely and directed by Louis D’Esposito:

Peggy is contacted by old acquaintance Howard Stark (Dominic Cooper, Marvel’s “Captain America: The First Avenger”) when he is framed for unleashing his deadliest weapons and can trust no one else. To help Peggy clear Stark’s name, he insists his butler, Edwin Jarvis, be at her beck and call–whether she likes it or not. But the risk is great: If caught, Agent Carter could be targeted as a traitor and spend the rest of her days in prison…or worse.
