Back when Edgar Wright exited Ant-Man due to creative differences, there was some talk of Adam McKay possibly taking the position, but just before signing on the dotting line, he opted out and Peyton Reed took the gig. However, that didn’t mean McKay was out entirely. He joined the project in a screenwriting capacity and back in January we found out he’s getting a full-blown screenwriting credit on the film alongside Paul Rudd whereas Wright and Joe Cornish are only getting “story by” credits.

Further proving McKay was doing well with Marvel, back in October, he revealed that he’s “starting to get into the early stages with Marvel” and that “maybe I would take on one of the characters ... discussions are definitely going on.” Now it looks like those discussions might pan out because we’ve got Latino Review reporting that McKay is indeed “in the on-deck spot” to direct a Marvel movie. Which Marvel movie? Your guess is as good as mine, but we can narrow it down a bit.

Here’s what we know is on the way - Captain America: Civil War, Doctor Strange, Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Spider-Man, Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War Part 1, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Avengers: Infinity War Part 2 and Inhumans. Civil War, Doctor Strange, Guardians 2, Spider-Man and both Infinity War movies are out so that leaves Thor, Black Panther, Captain Marvel and Inhumans and, as LR points out, Inhumans seems like the likely option.

The Thor movies do have a comedic tone to them, but that tone has already been established whereas Inhumans would give McKay the opportunity to build something specifically in line with his skill set, much like what James Gunn did with Guardians.

What do you think? Is McKay the right guy for Inhumans or is he better suited for another upcoming Marvel project? Inhumans is due in theaters on July 12, 2019.
