Tonight is a bit of a bloodbath for ABC. Fresh off somewhat shocking cancellations for Castle and Nashville, the network has decided to scuttle plans for the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. spinoff Marvel’s Most Wanted. The show would’ve focused on S.H.I.E.L.D. characters Bobbie Morse (Adrianne Palicki) and Lance Hunter (Nick Blood) as they’re on the run from a long list of enemies looking to fill a bounty. The series would have seen them team up with a rogue adventurer, Dominic Fortune (Delroy Lindo), who offers protection in exchange for completing a series of task that no doubt would’ve comprised the entirety of the series.

This is actually the second time ABC has chosen not to move forward with Marvel’s Most Wanted, as the show was in development last season before plans were put on hold. The idea was resurrected this year with a semi-backdoor pilot for Palicki and Blood’s characters airing on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. this season, but as ABC puts together its slate for the 2016-17 TV season, the decision was made to put Marvel’s Most Wanted to bed once and for all.

With Agent Carter getting the ax earlier today as well, that leaves Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. as the only Marvel series on broadcast television at the moment. Those two shows have seen ratings and creative struggles, but the future is much brighter over on Netflix, where Daredevil and Jessica Jones earned high critical praise and enthusiasm, with Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and The Defenders on the horizon.

It remains to be seen if Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb will try his hand at another broadcast series or if he’ll keep Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. running while maintaining focus on filling out the Netflix roster. It’s no secret Disney has been struggling in its television arm, so it’s possible these cancellations are a result of the Mouse House simply getting its house in order.
