A few casting items crept up in today’s second half.  In short:

  • Mathew McConaughey is said to be in talks to join The Company Man.  The former Black List script is currently looking for a director.
  • Amy Ryan, Eve Hewson, Alan Alda and Billy Magnussen look to be joining Steven Spielberg’s Untitled Cold War Thriller starring Tom Hanks.
  • Speaking of talks, Naomi Watts is apparently in them to join Jake Gyllenhaal in Demolition, the new picture from Dallas Buyers Club-director Jean-Marc Vallée.

Deadline reported on Matthew McConaughey’s pending deal for The Company Man, though his agents are telling them that nothing is finalized.  The script by Andrew Cypiot is “based on true events. CIA agent Edwin Wilson went behind enemy lines to secure a weapons contract and report information back to the CIA shortly after the Cold War.  He had a meteoric rise until company policies changed and he was unceremoniously fired.  Even after, he continued to operate as a man without a country and became public enemy No. 1 to the U.S. Attorney’s office.”

It was a big casting day for the Untitled Cold War Thriller that I really wish would get a title at some point.  The Wrap initially reported that The Knick star Eve Hewson (aka Bono’s daughter) was in talks to play Jan Donovan, "Hanks’ daughter who ends up falling for his young law associate."

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Amy Ryan would be playing Hank’s wife in the film.  They also pegged Alan Alda and Billy Magnussen as being close to deals to appear in the movie, which will start shooting in September in New York and Berlin.  Joel and Ethan Coen are currently rewriting Matt Charman’s script.

Finally, The Wrap reported on Naomi Watts’ negotiations to join Jake Gyllenhaal in Jean-Marc Vallée’s Demolition.  Per the report, the film “follows a young investment banker (Gyllenhaal) struggling to understand his emotional disconnect following the tragic death of his wife in an auto accident. As he tears apart his life in a distraught effort to see where he went wrong, he becomes obsessed with destruction and develops a unique relationship with a single mother (Watts) who rescues him.”  Watts will apparently be playing something of a pot-head, which could be fun.
