Matt Damon in Talks to Join Neill Blomkamp’s ELYSIUM

     December 10, 2010

Matt Damon is in early negotiations to join Sharlto Copley in Neill Blomkamp’s Elysium.  Not much is known about the film other than it takes place on another planet and is set in the distant future.  Because the project is shrouded in secrecy, it’s unknown what role Damon or Copley would play.  Deadline reports that production company Media Rights Capital won’t start shopping the project until next year when it has its major cast lined up.

Hit the jump for a refresher on the other projects Damon has on his plate.  He’ll next be seen in theaters on December 22nd in the Coen Brothers’ western True Grit.

Damon is set to star Cameron Crowe’s We Bought a Zoo this spring.  The film is based on the memoir by Benjamin Mee.  The story follows Mee and his family’s rebuilding of a dilapidated zoo after his wife died.  The film will costar Scarlett Johansson.

Damon has also said he plans to shoot Steven Soderbergh’s Liberace next summer.  The film will star Michael Douglas as the famous musician while Damon is set to play Liberace’s lover.

The actor is also attached to star in a biopic of Robert F. Kennedy, and is circling the baseball drama The Trade with Ben Affleck.
