When I lived in New York, one of my favorite events was the city's annual Toy Fair. One year I even convinced a little indie toy company that I was a distributor (they bought it based on the number of "Warrior Nun Areala" action figures I was buying at the time) and got to go in as a buyer!! Sadly, it was one of the best days of my life.

One of the biggest hitters at every Toy Fair is Mattel - makers of Barbie and other toys that are nowhere near as awesome as Barbie. This year Mattel's Collectable Division will be unveiling a line of 12 inch Action Figures from "Ghostbusters" at Toy Fair. The dolls, I mean… er, action figures would appear to be ideal suitors for Babs, but as we know - the "Ghostbusters" guys are packing unlicensed nuclear accelerators only. And, just in case this news got you dreaming about "Ghostbusters 3" again, I'msorry to tell youthat the line is being issued to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the original film only.

Here's more from Mattel's press release:

Mattel's "Ghostbusters" collectible line debuts with 12-inch figures in June 2009, and will be available exclusively at MattyCollector.com. Each figure will feature window box packaging and include authentic Ghostbuster equipment unique to each character. For the first time, Mattel's line will include talent likeness of Egon Spengler, Ray Stantz, Peter Venkman and Winston Zeddemore. Select prototype figures will be on display February 6-8 at New York Comic Con and February 15 at Mattel's New York Toy Fair Collector Preview Night (by invitation only).

You hear that toy fans? Finally a Peter Venkman doll, I mean… er, action figure that is going to look like Bill Murray. Murray famously withheld licensing approval of his image on the "Real Ghostbusters" line of figures from the late 80's – I'm sure I'm not the only one who tried to rectify thattravesty with a putty knife and a judicious use of black nail polish on the tiny Venkman.

Snuck in at the end of Mattel's announcement is a little extra about the company's plans to re-produce "Real Ghostbusters" figures as well… but I'm going to pretend I didn't read that part.

In addition to the 12 inch collector Line, Mattel will also unveil a 6 inch series that is being sculpted by the superheroes of the ¾ inch scale universe – the Four Horsemen. The action figure line will include "an extensive cast of ghosts and Ghostbusters" all with authentic equipment. They'll debut at this year's San Diego Comic-Con.

Now f you'll excuse me, I'm going to go find my Sigourney Weaver Ripley doll and tell her that she can finally prepare for the coming of Gozer AND the coming of Peter Venkman – that girl's been saving it up for a long time..
