Last week, we reported that Dwayne Johnson would star in the Journey to the Center of the Earth sequel, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island.  Today, Heat Vision reports that Michael Caine is in final negotiations to join the cast.  The film, directed by Brad Peyton (Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore) has Josh Hutcherson reprising his role from the first film and teaming up with Johnson—who will play his mom's boyfriend—on a quest to find the mysterious island and his missing grandfather.  Caine will play the grandpa but Heat Vision notes that it's not a cameo and that the "role will see the actor in action mode, engaging in several chase sequences, including one involving giant bees."  Michael Caine + Giant Bees = My Money on Opening Day.

Shooting is scheduled to begin in October in Hawaii before moving to North Carolina.  Caine has a new memoir that's due out this fall and is set to reprise his role as Alfred Pennyworth in Batman 3.  Caine believes Christopher Nolan's highly-awaited sequel will begin filming in April.
