Michael Douglas in Talks to Lead LAST VEGAS; Like THE HANGOVER but with Old Guys

     April 17, 2012

Michael Douglas is in negotiations to star in the comedy Last Vegas.  As we reported in September, Jon Turtletaub (National Treasure) will direct a script from Dan Fogelman (Crazy, Stupid, Love.), which centers “on a quartet of retired boomers who are called upon for a Vegas bachelor party by their friend, a ladies man (Douglas) who is finally settling down and marrying a woman half his age.”  Variety adds that “old tensions crop up between the groom-to-be and one of his friends over the woman they both loved as teenagers.”  While it sounds like a fun movie for Douglas and I’ve enjoyed his recent work, he already played similar characters in Solitary Man and Ghosts of Girlfriends Past.   Last April, Fogelman said he wanted Jack Nicholson for the role, so the filmmakers aren’t exactly thinking outside the box on this one.

Thankfully, Douglas will be stretching himself in his next role as Liberace in Steven Soderbergh‘s HBO film Behind the Candelabra, which shoots this June.  Last Vegas is set to begin filming in September.
