With Miss Sloane now playing in limited release and opening nationwide on December 9th, I recently sat down with Jessica Chastain and Gugu Mbatha-Raw to talk about director John Madden’s new film. During the interview they revealed what they learned from real world lobbyists, what they wanted to add to their characters, and how even though the film tries to tackle smart gun legislation it really could be about any piece of tough legislation.

If you’re not familiar with the film, Jessica Chastain is fantastic as a ruthless lobbyist that's willing to do whatever it takes to win. As the film unfolds, we follow as she attempts to take on the gun lobby and her former firm. While we all know the term "lobbyist," Miss Sloane pulls the curtain back on how Capitol Hill games are played and I thought it was really well done. The film also stars Mark Strong, Jake Lacey, Alison Pill, Michael Stuhlbarg, Sam Waterston and John Lithgow.

Check out what they had to say in the interview above, and below is exactly what we talked about along with some images from the film. You can also watch the Miss Sloane trailer by clicking here.

Jessica Chastain and Gugu Mbatha-Raw:

  • How you feel like you’re in the room with these lobbyists. They talk about how they went to lobbying boot camp and also to Washington to meet lobbyists.
  • What did they want to add to their characters after meeting some real life lobbyists?
  • How the film tries to tackle smart gun legislation but it really could be about anything.
