Paramount has released a new Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation trailer, which is a longer version of the trailer that was released yesterday. The movie reteams Tom Cruise, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, and Jeremy Renner and adds newcomer Rebecca Ferguson as the IMF attempts to take down “The Syndicate”, a worldwide criminal organization described as an “anti-IMF”.

Aside from the fact that we really need to retire the phrase “What’s the play?” (it’s becoming the new “We’ve got company,” a phrase no one says in real life unless they have guests over), this is an exciting trailer. Whereas Brad Bird’s Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol put a heavy emphasis on gadgets, Rogue Nation director Christopher McQuarrie appears to be pushing the new sequel towards a more hard-boiled approach that leans heavily on fisticuffs and destroying the hell out of motorcycles. That looks great, but I would see this film based solely on the money shot of Cruise attached to the plane (Cruise being Cruise, he’s actually attached to a real plane that’s in the air because he cares that much about your entertainment).

Check out the trailer below. Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation opens in IMAX and traditional theaters on July 31st, and also stars Sean Harris, Simon McBurney, and Alec Baldwin.

Here's the synopsis for Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation:

The new flick finds Hunt’s highly effective but destructive Impossible Mission Force (IMF) disbanded by vengeful Washington bureaucrats such as the CIA chief (played by Alec Baldwin). But Hunt pulls his team together (Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames and newcomer Rebecca Ferguson) to battle the shadowy force known as “The Syndicate” and its elusive leader (Sean Harris).
