We at Collider are happy to exclusively announce that the good folks at Mondo are celebrating The Dark Knight in a big way next month. Mondo Gallery’s “80 Years of Batman” launches in May and celebrates the history of the caped crusader, along with his allies and infamous rogues gallery of villains, with eighteen classic, iconic and fan-favorite Batman comic book cover images produced as screen printed posters. This marks the first time Mondo has given its limited edition screen print treatment to classic comic book artwork.
Covers available include Detective Comics #27 (1939), Detective Comics #367 (1967), Batman #251 (1973), Batman: The Dark Knight Returns (1986), and A Death in the Family (1988). All in all, 18 covers will be available.
The “80 Years of Batman” show will open on Friday, May 17th from 7-10pm and the show will run through My 25th during regular gallery hours (12pm-6pm, Tuesday to Saturday). The Mondo Gallery is located at 4115 Guadalupe St. in Austin, Texas.
“For most of my life I’ve been enamored with Batman. His rogues. His world. His look. It’s just about as perfect as you can get,” says Eric Garza, Mondo Creative Director. “It wasn’t until I was a bit older that I became enthralled with the artists who have lent their talents to drawing old Bats. From campy pulp detective to hardened Dark Knight, so many brilliant artists have added to the allure and majesty of the Caped Crusader. To celebrate 80 monumental years and the incredible comics legacy of the Batman, we’ve mined the Batcave for our favorite and most iconic Batman comic book covers. We are proud to share them with the world as beautifully produced screen printed posters. Long live the Bat.”
This show will no doubt be of intense interest to fans of both Batman and Mondo, and it’ll be great to see this iconic art presented in grand fashion. And because I’m sure those of you not near Austin are wondering, yes the posters will be available worldwide online following the gallery event.
