The Alamo Drafthouse’s Summer of ‘82 series is the hottest ticket in Austin, Texas this summer, and not only because the Drafthouse’s consistently-brilliant programmers are bringing back some of the most beloved genre classics from the “Me Decade”:   on top of several months’ worth of kick-ass classics like The Thing, Poltergeist, and The Road Warrior, the Drafthouse is also using this series to debut some brand-spanking new artwork from Mondo (the movie-poster producing arm of the Alamo Drafthouse, as if you needed to be told).  This Friday, the Summer of 1982 series is delivering Rocky 3 upon the city, and Collider.com is co-hosting the event.  Wanna see the Mondo print that’s set to debut during the show?  Meet me after the jump, folks.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve probably already heard about the Alamo Drafthouse’s ongoing Summer of ’82 series (presented in conjunction with the fine folks at Fandango, by the way).  The series—which, as you might expect, is composed entirely of screenings direct from the summer of 1982—got off to a big bang a few weeks ago with John Milius’ classic Schwarzenegger vehicle Conan The Barbarian, and last Friday things got even bigger (and sweatier) with a screening of George Miller’s The Road Warrior.  So far, it’s been an awesome summer (of ’82).

As you probably also know, each of these screenings is being co-hosted by one of the internet’s finest film geek websites (HitFix.com co-hosted Conan, BadassDigest.com is co-hosting Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Kahn), and Collider.com is proud to announce that we’ll be co-hosting this Friday’s screening of Rocky 3.

Before we go any further, let’s take a look at the print itself, which has been gloriously rendered by the ever-more-popular artist Jay Shaw (known in some nefarious circles as “Iron Jaiden”):

The print’s 18x24”, limited to an edition of 270, and can be yours for the low, low price of just $40.

Now:  a word of warning.  As we speak, Mondo’s doing their best to get these printed up and ready for distribution during the screening on Friday, but we’ve been advised that things are moving just a little slower than anticipated, so it’s possible that these Rocky 3 prints won’t be available at this screening (if that’s the case, they’ll be available at a future Summer of ’82 screening).  Be sure to stay tuned to @MondoNews via Twitter for further  updates on the print’s availability at this screening as they become available.

This is just the latest in a strong series of prints from Mondo (they announced three new sales this morning, which you may have read about here).  And if you need any further convincing to get your ass to Austin this Friday, we suggest you take a peek at the video below, which captures some of the madness that went down during last Friday’s racetrack-based screening of The Road Warrior:

As always, no one throws a party like the Alamo Drafthouse.

The Rocky 3 screening—co-hosted by Collider.com and co-presented by Fandango.com—will be happening this Friday night at 7pm at the Alamo Drafthouse’s Ritz location, on 6th street in downtown Austin, TX.  If you don’t already have tickets, we suggest hitting up your friendly neighborhood scalper.  Special thanks to Fons PR, the Drafthouse team, and man-of-the-hour Jay Shaw for delivering a truly wicked Rocky 3 print.
