More Than 230,000 People Demand PARANORMAL ACTIVITY; Film Expands to 20 More Cities

     September 28, 2009

The buzz, hype, and word of mouth only continues to grow for “Paranormal Activity”.  When I first reported on the trailer a couple of weeks ago I said that I wasn’t so sure about this “demand it in your town” release strategy, but it seems that this plan is working perfectly for the film.  The film has now been demanded by more than 230,000 people and thanks to these demands the film will now open in twenty more additional cities across the country this weekend.  If you are dying to see what everyone is talking about and want to find out if your city was chosen, just hit the jump for all the details.

I’ve been keeping track of this film for the past couple of years and I’m pretty happy to see the film living up to it’s hype.  The film seems to have only gotten great-to-amazing reviews from the various film festivals that it has played at recently and the word of mouth caused by the free midnight screenings that took place recently has been nothing but strong.  I’m sure that both of these factors plus that audience reaction trailer only helped the film gain some more momentum and I’m glad to see that this “demand it in your town” thing is working out.

Anyway, here is a listing of the 20 additional cities where the film will be playing at starting October 2nd at midnight:

Los Angeles, CA (Arclight Hollywood); New York, NY (AMC Empire); Chicago, IL (AMC River East); Dallas, TX (AMC Northpark); Houston, TX (AMC Studio); San Diego, CA (AMC Mission Valley); Phoenix, AZ (Harkins Tempe Marketplace); San Francisco, CA (AMC Metreon); Philadelphia, PA (National Amusement Bridge); Atlanta, GA (Atlantic Station); Miami, FL (AMC Adventure); San Antonio, TX (AMC Huebner Oaks); Las Vegas, NV (Rave Town Square); Minneapolis, MN (AMC Rosedale); Denver, CO (Regal Continental); Detroit, MI (AMC Forum); DC/Baltimore (AMC Georgetown); Sacramento, CA (Cinemark Complex 14); San Jose, CA (AMC Mercado); and Tampa, FL (AMC Veterans)

The already existing 12 cities are:

Seattle, WA (Neptune); Ann Arbor, MI (State); Durham, SC (Southpoint 16); Baton Rouge, LA (RAVE Mall of Louisiana 15); Boulder, CO (Cinemark 16); Columbus, OH (Studio 35); Orlando, FL (AMC Universal Cineplex); Madison, WI (Marcus Eastgate 16); Santa Cruz, CA (Del Mar 3); State College, PA (Premiere College 9); Tucson, AZ (El Con); and Lincoln, NE (Ross Media Center

You can continue to demand “Paranormal Activity” by going to and for those just tuning in, here is a brief synopsis for the film:

“Katie and Micah were enjoying a happy and carefree existence. Their future looked promising until bizarre events begin to occur at night. In order to get to the bottom of things, Katie and Micah purchase a video camera to find out what happens at night while they slept.”
