With summer right around the corner, excitement is mounting for sunny weather and outdoor activities. However, while the summer months are clearly a great time to hit the beaches, they’re also the perfect time to spend late nights watching great TV.

All the popular streaming services have something great for everyone. This summer is set to be another awesome TV season, with some of the most anticipated shows of the year queued up.

The Umbrella Academy: Season 3 (June 23)

The story of a dysfunctional superhero family trying to save the world. The Umbrella Academy is based on Gerard Way’s comic of the same name and stars Elliot Page. This season will will include Euphoria's Javon Walton in its cast, and show The Umbrella Academy facing off against The Sparrow Academy. ​​

Fans of the first two seasons were met with a massive cliffhanger at the end of season two, and are excited to see what twists and revelations this newest season has in store. Scheduled to release on June 23rd, this quirky superhero adventure will be a great way to start off the summer.

Loot (June 24)

A workplace comedy that sees billionaire Molly Novak hit rock bottom and attempt to rediscover herself. Through working with her own charity, Molly will embark on a quirky journey of philanthropy, attempting to give away her vast riches.

Created by acclaimed Alan Yang and Matt Hubbard, and starring Maya Rudolf, the show boasts the star power and creative vision needed to be a major success. While only glimpses of the show have been released so far, Loot has already become one of the most anticipated comedies of 2022.

Only Murders in the Building: Season 2 (June 28)

The second season of the hit Hulu comedy-mystery. Only Murders in the Building follows a trio of true crime enthusiasts (played by Selena Gomez, Steve Martin, and Martin Short) who become wrapped up in a series of grisly murders.

The first season of the show was extremely well received, earning a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Fans of the show are hopeful the second season will bring the same charmingly macabre humor, and continue to showcase the extreme likeability of its stars.

The Terminal List (July 1)

An adaptation of Jack Carr’s intense military action novel. The show will feature Chris Pratt as an ex-Navy SEAL officer, as he tries to uncover the reason his platoon was attacked.

The Terminal List poses to become the next chapter of Amazon Prime’s military action shows, following the success of shows like Reacher and Jack Ryan. Fans of both the book, Pratt, and action-packed adventures anxiously await the release of this high-budget drama.

Resident Evil (July 14)

Netflix is set to release a live-action TV show based on the famous Japanese horror video game. The show will be set in 2036 and follow Jade Wesker as she fights to survive in a world overrun by a zombie outbreak.

As a massively popular game and film franchise, Resident Evil will certainly have a large fan following. While Netflix Previously released a disappointing animated miniseries, fans are hopeful the live-action show will do the beloved game justice.

House of the Dragon (August 21)

A prequel series set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones. The series will follow the rule of the Targaryen family, and how this disastrous monarchy will set up the events of Game of Thrones.

While fans were disappointed by the final seasons of Game of Thrones, many are hopeful that House of the Dragon will prove to be more in line with the quality of earlier seasons. As the series has already earned G.R.R Martin’s praise, fans are hopeful that House of the Dragon will be a positive final chapter for the beloved franchise.

Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (September 2)

Set in the Second Age of Middle earth, 6 000 years before Frodo would come to bear the ring, The Rings of Power will offer a never before seen glimpse into the world of middle earth.

With a scheduled release date of September 2, The Rings of Power is likely the most anticipated show of the summer. With a massive budget and star-studded cast, fans can expect to see some incredible fantasy content.

Westworld: Season 4 (no date set)

The fourth season of HBO’s hit sci-fi show features a near-future world of artificial intelligence and robot technology. The show delves into the darkness of human nature and is based on a 1973 film by the same name.

While previously thought to be released in March, delays have pushed back the release date. While a specific date has not yet been announced, fans of the hit show have been assured by actor Jeffery Wright that it will be coming sometime this summer!

The Sandman (speculated)

After over thirty years of waiting, fans of Neil Gaiman’s dark and magical comic epic will finally see The Sandman grace their TV screens this year! The Sandman follows Morpheus, the incarnation of Dream, and his immortal family The Endless. When a wizard cult accidentally summons Morpheus, in an attempt to trap his older sister Death, he must go on a journey to reclaim his lost power and return to The Dreaming.

Gaiman has been highly involved with the project, and fans have been assured it will follow the source material closely. While there has been no official release date confirmed by Netflix, with filming finished last summer most sources estimate the show will be released sometime this summer.
