The rather odd trend of celebrities suddenly turning into DIY home renovation specialists is continuing with Laurence Turead, better known as Mr. T. Variety reports today that the former A-Team and Rocky III star is set to star in I Pity the Tool for the Scripps Network, which will feature the celebrity performing random home repairs and remodeling projects: “You can’t just knock down everything. There might be electrical wiring. There might be a gap open. You have to take your time. You have to scout things out. If you do the wrong thing, it’s going to be a disaster.” Man’s got a point.

The show will debut sometime late in 2015 with a multi-episode roll-out expected for 2016. The popular television personality seeks to help out military veterans and people with medical issues or money troubles, with the pilot centering on a major Mr. T fan who has fallen on hard times. “I am tough, but deep inside my toughness, I like to let people know I’m an old-fashioned mama’s boy,” said Mr. T, who has worked across the entertainment spectrum over the last few decades, appearing in commercials and comedies regularly.

“You have to tear down before you can build up,” Mr. T also commented, and he’s not just blowing smoke. Before he became famous, Turead worked demolition jobs on construction sites, and took quickly to hands-on work like brick masonry and cabinet making. Despite the Scribbs network’s anticipation for the show, there is no dedicated schedule for I Pity the Tool in 2016, but this seems to be largely due to an inability to forecast how long productions will take. Meanwhile, Mr. T hasn’t appeared in a film since providing his vocal talents to 2009’s delightful Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. Regardless of the general silliness of the entire enterprise, the image of Mr. T running a DIY team of home builders makes a whole lot more sense than similar projects featuring Vanilla Ice and William “What Does It Pay?” Shatner.
