It’s time to play the music. It’s time to light the lights. The Muppet Show is coming back. We’ve heard rumors about a Muppet Show reboot for months now, and today TV Line is reporting that the show is definitely in the works at ABC with The Big Bang Theory co-creator Bill Prady acting as co-writer and executive producer.

ABC will apparently shoot a pilot presentation for The Muppet Show reboot this month with the working title Muppets 2015, after which they’ll make a final decision about whether to order it to series. Per TV Line, the logline for the redo is as follows:

“The Muppets gather excitedly at ABC for a meeting about the new Muppet Show. However, the show will not move forward unless Miss Piggy signs on.”

Anger Management alum Bob Kushell will serve as showrunner, executive producer, and co-writer for the reboot, so for the time-being it appears that Prady is sticking with his hit CBS sitcom as his day job, though he's certainly involved in the Muppet Show reboot. This isn’t Prady’s first brush with the Muppets either, as he previously worked on Muppet Classic Theater and The Jim Henson Hour.

Disney has been trying to decide what to do with the Muppets after the feature film revival flickered out with the sequel Muppets Most Wanted. The Jason Segel-steered The Muppets was a solid boost to the IP, but the follow-up failed to catch on at the box office or with critics. A TV redo seems like a solid next step, and it would certainly be nice to see ABC bring back some more kid-oriented content. Though the last time they revived the franchise for television, ABC canceled 1996’s Muppets Tonight after 10 episodes.

What do you think, folks? Would you be interested in seeing The Muppets return to TV? Sound off in the comments below.
