RADiUS-TWC has released the first My Life Directed trailer for writer/director Liv Corfixen’s upcoming documentary. The film takes an intimate look at filmmaker Nicolas Winding Refn’s process while making Only God Forgives, as he struggles to capitalize on the success of Drive and shoot the film in Bangkok. The fact that Corfixen is Refn’s wife means we get revealing access to the filmmaker, and indeed the doc doesn’t shy away from Refn’s frustration during the production.

As someone who immensely enjoys poring over behind-the-scenes extras on Blu-rays, I’m thrilled to see this feature-length documentary getting a big release. Refn’s a fascinating guy so I’m definitely looking forward to having a better understanding of where he’s coming from.

Here’s the official synopsis for My Life Directed:

In MY LIFE DIRECTED BY NICOLAS WINDING REFN, Refn's own deep conflict is swinging in the breeze as we witness him wrestle with the particularly challenging production of ONLY GOD FORGIVES. Directed and shot by his wife Liv Corfixen over the duration of the production and subsequent Cannes debut, MY LIFE DIRECTED BY NICOLAS WINDING REFN captures the very private and intimate moments to which a traditional documentary crew simply wouldn't have access. The result is a fascinating, detailed look at a creative genius at work and also a portrait of a director torn between the general public's desire for a "DRIVE 2" and his own mission to explore more challenging narrative territory.
