Filmmaker Nicolas Winding Refn continues to cast up his next project, and today’s latest additions are mighty exciting. The Drive and Only God Forgives director’s new movie is a horror tale called The Neon Demon, and it was borne out of Refn’s desire to “make a horror film about vicious beauty.” Elle Fanning was previously revealed to be the lead of the film, an aspiring model who is “caught in a world of beauty and demise," and today the full cast for The Neon Demon was announced. The ensemble will be filled out by Keanu Reeves, Jena Malone, Bella Heathcote (Dark Shadows), Abbey Lee (Mad Max: Fury Road), and Christina Hendricks, whom Refn previously worked with on Drive.

Details regarding their characters are unknown at this time, but in keeping with the film’s description as a female-driven movie, the cast thus far only has one male actor.  Given the kinds of performances Refn was able to get out of Ryan Gosling on their two films together, the prospect of the filmmaker working with Reeves is incredibly enticing.

Production on The Neon Demon is set to begin on March 30th in Los Angeles, and as previously confirmed, Refn will be once again reuniting with composer Cliff Martinez.  It’s unclear whether the film might be finished in time for a late 2015 release or if we won’t see it until 2016, but it’s among my most anticipated films either way.
