Activision has released the reveal trailer for the new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare game, along with details of what players can expect from the franchise relaunch. It’s been nearly 12 years since 2007’s Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare transformed the popular video game franchise and vaulted it to a whole other level, but the series has arguably never been able to regain that level of acclaim and replayability since. The Modern Warfare branch of Call of Duty games went dark after 2011’s third installment, but Activision hopes to lure players back with this whole new relaunch of the franchise. Again.
This new game was reimagined from the ground-up, featuring “a unified narrative experience and progression across a heart racing, epic single-player story, an action-packed multiplayer playground, and new cooperative gameplay.” The game’s story was inspired by today’s headlines, and features both iconic European cities and volatile expanses of the Middle East as settings.
And for those who value the multiplayer experience, developer Infinity Ward has some surprises in store:
“Every design decision has been made with our players in mind,” said Patrick Kelly, Creative Director and co-Studio Head, Infinity Ward. “With the launch of Modern Warfare, we’re taking steps to unite the community. First, we plan for Modern Warfare to be played together across PC and console through cross-play support. Second, we’re eliminating the traditional season pass, so that we can deliver more free maps and content as well as post-launch events to all players. This is just the beginning – there’s much more to come.”
The game is scheduled for release on October 25th for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Check out the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare trailer below, which features a familiar face.
