Open Road Films has released a new red-band trailer for writer/director Rick Famuyiwa’s upcoming film Dope. The movie follows self-proclaimed 90s nerds Malcolm (Shameik Moore) and his friends Diggy (Kiersey Clemons) and Jib (Tony Revolori) who get caught up in a drug deal and must figure out how to recoup the money and stay alive. This trailer is, obviously, a much more NSFW look at the film than the trailers that came before it, but it’s still providing a solid look at what could be the indie breakout of the year.

I caught the film at Sundance and enjoyed it for the most part, but the pic has some pacing issues and gets a little too bogged down by the plot. That said, Famuyiwa announces himself as a talented filmmaker to watch (he’s rumored to be in the mix for Marvel’s Black Panther—something a few friends and I predicted back at Sundance after seeing the film), and Moore is straight-up excellent in the lead role.

Here’s the official synopsis for Dope:

A critical hit and audience favorite out of the Sundance Film Festival, in DOPE, Malcolm (Shameik Moore) is carefully surviving life in a tough neighborhood in Los Angeles while juggling college applications, academic interviews, and the SAT. A chance invitation to an underground party leads him into an adventure that could allow him to go from being a geek, to being dope, to ultimately being himself.
