A handful of new The Lion King images have landed online, offering a closer look at the highly anticipated new film. While Disney’s Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, and even The Jungle Book were billed as “live-action remakes,” after seeing the footage from The Lion King it’s safe to say this is not a live-action movie. Instead, director Jon Favreau has pushed the technology he used on The Jungle Book even further to create what’s essentially a photo-real CG-animated remake of the iconic animated film.

The animals all look completely true to life, with CG environments surrounding them. Indeed, it doesn’t even look like the actors performed motion-capture—although I’m itching to see a behind-the-scenes reel myself to see just how this movie was made.

These new images offer a look at some unforgettable sequences, like Mufasa (James Earl Jones) showing a young Simba his kingdom (i.e. “Everything the light touches…”) or adult Simba (Donald Glover) stargazing alongside Pumbaa (Seth Rogen) and Timon (Billy Eichner). So yeah, over/under on how quickly this movie will make a billion dollars?

Check out the new The Lion King images. The voice cast also includes Beyonce Knowles Carter, John Oliver, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Amy Sedaris, Alfre Woodard, John Kani, Keeegan-Michael Key, Eric Andre, Shahadi Wright Joseph, and JD McCrary. The Lion King opens in theaters on July 19th.

Disney’s “The Lion King, directed by Jon Favreau (“The Jungle Book”), journeys to the African savanna where a future king is born. Simba idolizes his father, King Mufasa, and takes to heart his own royal destiny. But not everyone in the kingdom celebrates the new cub’s arrival. Scar, Mufasa’s brother—and former heir to the throne—has plans of his own. The battle for Pride Rock is ravaged with betrayal, tragedy and drama, ultimately resulting in Simba’s exile.
